Dr. John DeRosimo talks about minimally invasive lung cancer surgery, a procedure known as video assisted thoracic surgery or VATS. This video is brought to you by the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.
As you have probably known that the number of people with lung cancer is increasing dramatically. This mainly caused by the people’s unawareness on the source of lung cancer. There are many factors that can cause lung cancer. The heavy air pollution can be the source of the lung cancer but the biggest source of lung cancer is the smoking habits. This can be true because the research shows that 90% of people with lung cancer are smokers. Smoking is an activity inhaling smoke from cigarette. When tobacco is burning as a cigarette and people inhale it, there are many dangerous materials are also inhaled. Tobacco has several dangerous materials such as tar and Nicotine. When the tar and nicotine are inhaled, it covers the lung surface with a layer. When you continue smoking for many years, the layer is getting thicker and it blocks the process of oxygen absorption.
As you may know that lung is the only oxygen supplier for the whole body. The blood stream takes the oxygen from the lung and brings it to all parts of the body. When the surface of the lung is layered with tar and nicotine, the lungs are not able to absorb oxygen well. And when it can’t absorb oxygen, the body will not get enough oxygen supply. As the result, your body will not do their job as it was. Moreover, when the lungs are covered by the tar and nicotine, it can cause the lung cell to grow uncontrollable. The lung cell will grow wild and it cause lung cancer. When the cells grow wildly, it forms a swelling. The swelling is of course very hurt and it can be very big too. The research shows that the lung cancer can block your breath system and you will die.
Unfortunately, cancer can spread away. If the blood stream makes a contact with the cancer cells, it brings the cancer seed to the whole body. in other word, the cancer is spreading. This is the most dangerous situation because you don’t where another cancer will grow. When you have lung cancer, it is better for you to stop smoking. Stop smoking is really hard but it may avoid you from the death. If the lung cancer is visible you will need to see doctor and take some medicines. You will also need to undergo some treatments to make the cancer disappear.
Women who are smoking have risk of dying 12 times greater of lung cancer. Moreover, smoking can cause many other illnesses such as bronchitis and cough. If you want to know more about the relation between smoking and lung cancer, you can read many articles about it on the internet. You can just open your computer and get informed how dangerous the lung cancer is.

Yul Brynner born on July 11th 1920 in Vladivostok, Russia, remains one of the most unique, somewhat mysterious but highly recognizable and beloved stars of his time. Actor, Director, Narrator, star of stage and screen. He is best known to me as an actor. He was the King in “The King and I” and won an Oscar for that role. “ The Ten Commandments,” “The Magnificent Seven” “Solomon and Sheba”. Just to name a few. Who could forget the unrelenting robot/gunslinger in “Westworld” that chased me through my mid-seventies nightmares. So many movies, television and stage appearances that to list them all would be to write a separate column. His face, voice and that unmistakable bald head, part of the very mystic which made him so memorable.
For so many of us, the legacy of Yul Brynner is wrapped up in the memory of the anti-smoking commercial that aired after his death from lung cancer in 1985. I just saw it for the first time in years on my computer and it put a lump in my throat. That image of the man who had lost his struggle but found a way to fight on. I respect that and respect him for it.
In 2007, I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and faced with the facts that the odds were not good. I have survived for two years and now run a non profit organization for funding lung cancer research and offering support to patients and families.
The “Yul Brynner effect” as I now call it is still as effective today as it was 20 years ago and that might not necessarily be a good thing anymore.
Tell anyone you meet that you have lung cancer and the first question back to you is “did you or do you smoke?”
The willingness of someone to donate to a cause is subject to several factors. First being their financial ability to give, second is the ability to connect to the cause. We have been pounding it into peoples’ heads for years that lung cancer is a smokers’ issue, therefore if I don’t smoke, lung cancer is not my issue. It’s that “you did it to yourself,” disconnect coupled with the extremely high mortality rate that keeps lung cancer in the closet even though lung cancer will kill more people this year then breast, colon and prostate cancer combined.
Somehow we have to move beyond that powerful Yul Brynner image and replace it with a new face and a voice, one that says, “ How and why it happened to you is not as important as what we need to do to cure you and keep future generations safe from cancer’s leading killer.” One that will assist research facilities all over the country in educating and employing the next generation of scientists and researchers by generating the funds needed.
Maybe the new face of Lung cancer is in your mirror and the voice is the one in your head telling you to do something now before it is a necessity for a loved one.
As co-founder and President of the GFLCCO, Tim Giardina,a current lung cancer survivor offers a unique point of view of Lung cancer, lung cancer treatment and offers support to patients and their families.

The world is getting older and the earth is getting unhealthy. There are a lot of pollutions everywhere. People are not aware to the earth. They don’t really care that the pollution can bring many kinds of diseases. The pollutions such as smoke, chemical wastes, solid wastes and many others can contaminate our water, earth and also air and everyday we need those elements. It means that we are using contaminated water and air and also live on contaminated soil. Those pollutants can cause cancers. When we grow food on contaminated soils, the plant will absorb dangerous materials and when we eat the food, the dangerous materials will remain in our body for years. When we consume contaminated water the pollutant will also stay in our body. All of those pollutants can cause many diseases such as cancer. The most dangerous cancer is when we inhaling contaminated air. The pollutants will directly affect our breath system. At first, will get cough because the air we inhale is not clean. When we inhale dirty air continuously, the effect will be very dangerous because the pollutants can cause lung cancer. Lung cancer is very dangerous because it can make our lung stop working and when it stops working, we will die because there are no oxygen supplies to the whole body.
Lung cancer is caused by the uncontrolled development of lung cells. The cells in the lung become uncontrolled because the pollutant has changed the genes code inside the cells. Since it is changed, the cells grow rapidly and form a swollen inside the lungs. The swollen can close the air circulation and at the end the lungs can not absorb oxygen and it will not supply oxygen to the whole body. When the cancer becomes malignant it can spread through the blood stream. When the seed of the cancer has spread through the blood stream, you will face greater danger because you don’t know where other cancer cell will grow. There are many things that you can do to stop the cancer. You can go to doctor and if it is possible you do lung surgery. Your lungs will be taken and replaced by another lung. This surgery is very expensive and furthermore, you need to find lung donor to give you the lung that matches with you.
If you don’t want to get lung cancer, you can protect your self from pollution by wearing masker. Smoking is believed to be the greatest factor that can cause lung cancer because the smoke is inhaled directly to the lungs. Therefore, avoid smoking or if there is someone else smoking around you, you’d better go from that place. There are many articles that you can read if you want to know more about lung cancer. Just open your internet and find one that you need.

Dr. Ernest Cohn, MD: "This book is by far the most complete and accurate review of alternative therapies I’ve seen in the 30+ years of my practice. I recommend our patients read this book now before we accept them for care here. It can save a patient’s life."
Dr.Pavel Yakovlev, MD: "The material in this book is enriching and hope-giving for clinical practice. I like the way you finish your book, with a notion of spiritual cancer, which is very important to remember when dealing with the patient."
Dr. Rashid Buttar: "I plan on recommending it to all my patients suffering from cancer who seek treatment at our clinic so that the light of truth and hope contained within this book can shine brightly on them as well."
