Dr. Elie Saikaly, MD is a practicing Oncologist at The Everett Clinic and the Medical Director of the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership. Lung cancer can be treated basically by three different modalities: there’s surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. We’ve made advances in all of those over the years. My specialty is medical oncology, where we focus on the treatment of cancers with drugs, or chemotherapy. My part in treating lung cancer is in the chemotherapy treatment of it. We have seen the development over the last few years of several new drugs that are very exciting and have helped people with lung cancer and have prolonged survival, as well as quality of survival, over what it’s been in the past. Lung cancer and esophageal cancer are very aggressive diseases. Early detection is essential. Acting quickly and decisively can make the difference between a cure and a life-limiting situation. The need to have in place a system to encompass the prompt diagnosis and care of a cancer that often involves complex treatment plans and coordination of services triggered the creation of the multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Program at Shands Jacksonville. Dr. Ernest Cohn, MD: "This book is by far the most complete and accurate review of alternative therapies I’ve seen in the 30+ years of my practice. I recommend our patients read this book now before we accept them for care here. It can save a patient’s life."
Dr.Pavel Yakovlev, MD: "The material in this book is enriching and hope-giving for clinical practice. I like the way you finish your book, with a notion of spiritual cancer, which is very important to remember when dealing with the patient."
Dr. Rashid Buttar: "I plan on recommending it to all my patients suffering from cancer who seek treatment at our clinic so that the light of truth and hope contained within this book can shine brightly on them as well."
