The Chemotherapy Effects and the Breakdown of How Chemo Reacts on the Cells Within Your Body
Know exactly what is going on when it comes to chemo. Did you know that some people may experience chemotherapy effects and some people will not experience any effects at all? The time it takes to get over a side effect varies from person to person.
Chemotherapy can be referred to the treatment of a disease by means of chemicals that are meant to kill cells. The cells of micro-organisms or cancer. Chemo works by attacking and killing cells which divide very quickly. And cancer cells can divide very rapidly. And at the same time chemotherapy can damage the cells that have a rapid division process. The cells that will be mainly affected are the cells in the digestive tract, the hair follicles and the bone marrow. These cells can become damage quickly. These cells again are the myelosuppresion which is a decrease in the production of blood cells, the mucositis which is inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract, and alopecia which will be a result in hair loss.
The chemotherapy effects or side effects can be divided into two major groups as short and long term. The side effects of chemotherapy can represent unwanted symptoms which can occur as a direct result from taking a chemo drug. The symptoms and sickness from the side effects are specific to the disease. Another, various chemotherapy drugs have different short term and long term side effects and not all chemotherapy drugs lead to every side effect.
The side effects of chemotherapy harm the cells that divide at a quicker rate as I have already mentioned above. The mouth, intestines, skin, hair, and the bone marrow (the spongy material that fills your bones and produces new blood cells) are mainly affected by chemotherapy. So since hair is growing all the time, the skin is constantly renewing itself and the lining of the mouth and digestive system have the same dynamics too. The cells of all these body tissues must constantly divide in order to produce a steady supply of new cells. And, unfortunately, when cells are dividing, chemotherapy drugs attack them.
To some of us, It is already known that most drugs used in chemotherapy have side effects, yet, not all patients have the same chemotherapy effects. The intensity of the experience, and the evolution during the treatment depends on many factors. These elements include the period during which the drug has been taken, the dose or amount of the drug, how the drug is administered, the patient’s general health, and the combination of the chemotherapy drug with other medicines.
You have some chemotherapy effects that can be serious medical conditions which must be dealt with, while other chemo drugs are not necessarily damaging to a patient’s health. It is very important that you discuss the effects of chemotherapy with the doctor. Although chemotherapy can cause havoc on the body for some, it is known to have helped many beat cancer and other diseases. Although the side effects can be alarming, chemo treatment can also save once’s life.
